Notable Moves Around the League

More from Kansas City Royals

  • Jose De Leon Pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays was traded to the Cincinnati Reds for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
  • Greg Bird 1B was designated for assignment by the New York Yankees.
  • Matt Duffy 3B was designated for assignment by the Tampa Bay Rays.
  • Jharel Cotton SP was designated for assignment by the Oakland A’s.
  • Dominic Leone RP was designated for assignment by the St. Louis Cardinals.
  • Taylor Guerrieri P was designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers.
  • C.D. Pelham P was designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers.
  • Luis Escobar P was designated for assignment by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Kansas City Royals could be in play for each of these players designated for assignment by other teams around the league. I strongly support the pursuit of any of the pitchers with Jharel Cotton holding the most promise as a potential high reward/low risk signing. Greg Bird and Matt Duffy each possess the talent and potential when healthy to be above average contributors.

The Cincinnati Reds obtaining the services of Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Jose De Leon stings a bit, as I was hopefully the Royals would make this move this offseason. I outlined this trade for Jose De Leon with the Royals here and here.

Outcome

2019-2020 Royals Offseason Schedule. dark. Next

Carlos Hernandez, Foster Griffin, Nick Heath, and Jeison Guzman are all one step closer to making the MLB roster and each possess the potential to be solid contributors at the MLB level.

The Royals could be expected to make more moves making space for potential free agent signings, Rule 5 draft selections, and trades. The Kansas City Royals could likely be in the market for several of the players designated for assignment by other teams around the league Wednesday.
