Mizzou football returns home for a game against the 11th ranked Florida Gators. Missouri needs a win after dropping three straight games.

It’s been a very up and down season for the Missouri Tigers.

After losing in disappointing fashion to Wyoming in week one, MU then won five straight games and the hype was through the roof! Then, the Tigers crashed back down to Earth, losing their next three games and sitting at 5-4 with an important game against Florida next up on the agenda.

While Missouri still has plenty of winnable games remaining on their schedule this season, beating Florida, who is the 11th ranked team in the country, would do a lot for this team’s confidence moving forward.

More from Missouri Tigers

No, winning the SEC East is no longer in play for the Tigers – that tends to be the case when you drop games to Wyoming, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky – but a respectable bowl game is most definitely on the table still.

Before we realistically discuss bowl games, Mizzou has to win at least one more game, and beating Florida would ensure that they’d make it a bowl game for their third straight season. It might not be a New Year’s bowl game, but going bowling is something a lot of teams would kill for and Missouri would have achieved that.

Fortunately, the Tigers have had Florida’s number since entering the SEC in 2012. They’ve gone 4-3 against the Gators including two straight wins over their conference foe. Last year Mizzou traveled to Gainesville and put an absolute beatdown on the then-highly ranked Gators. It was a huge win and arguably the biggest for Barry Odom while he’s been the coach of the Missouri Tigers.

At this point, Mizzou football fans aren’t expecting an SEC East title, but beating Florida would go a long way with this fan base. They’d buy back into this team for the duration of the season, as MU has very winnable games to finish off the year.

Throw in that this game is at home, where Missouri is 5-0 this year, and fans shouldn’t feel completely down about this weekend’s game. Kelly Bryant looks like he could return under center and that gives the Tigers a shot to win the game for sure.

Odom might be coaching for his job at this point, so beating the 11th ranked Florida Gators would secure his job for at least another year more than likely.

Hopefully Mizzou can lock down a big win this weekend and restore faith in the season.
