Kansas City Chiefs: NFL playoff picture after week 10 of 2019
We’re now into double digit weeks of the NFL and that means it’s time to really dive in and keep a close eye on the playoff standings. Where do the Kansas City Chiefs sit in the playoff picture after week 10?
Well, a lot changed since we last took a look at the NFL playoff seedings. The Kansas City Chiefs might not have moved in their seeding, but another loss could put them in a bad spot moving forward.
Let’s take a look at the playoff picture, starting with the AFC.
- New England Patriots (8-1) – BYE
- Baltimore Ravens (7-2) – BYE
- Houston Texans (6-3)
- Kansas City Chiefs (6-4)
- Buffalo Bills (6-3)
- Pittsburgh Steelers (5-4)
IN THE HUNT: RAIDERS (5-4), COLTS (5-4), TITANS (5-5)

If the playoffs began right now, the Chiefs would host the Bills in the Wild Card Round while the Texans would host the Steelers. The Colts dropped out of the sixth spot after losing to the Dolphins while the Steelers’ win over the Rams propelled them into a Wild Card berth. Assuming the teams played to their seeds, the Chiefs would travel to Foxborough and the Texans would head to Baltimore in the Divisional Round.
I only opted to include the teams with five wins in the “IN THE HUNT” category and right now that’s just those three teams listed above. The Raiders could make a run at the AFC West while the Colts and Titans definitely have a chance to win the AFC South or at least make it in as a Wild Card.
For week 11, the Patriots are back off their bye week and travel to Philadelphia, the Ravens host the Texans in what should be a fun game, the Chiefs play the Chargers in Mexico City, the Bills play the suddenly resurgent Dolphins, and the Steelers travel to Cleveland.
The Kansas City Chiefs have a lot of work to do if they want to move up from the four seed. The Ravens look to be the second best team in the AFC behind the Patriots, but the Chiefs did beat Baltimore early in the year. They can take them down if need be, but it won’t be easy, especially considering they’d now be playing on Wild Card weekend.
Now, let’s take a look at the NFC.
- San Francisco 49ers (8-1) – BYE
- Green Bay Packers (7-2) – BYE
- New Orleans Saints (7-2)
- Dallas Cowboys (5-4)
- Seattle Seahawks (8-2)
- Minnesota Vikings (7-3)
IN THE HUNT: RAMS (5-4), EAGLES (5-4), PANTHERS (5-4)
The only thing that changed from last week in the NFC is that the Packers and Saints switched spots after New Orleans lost to the then one-win Falcons. That means the Saints would now play on Wild Card weekend, hosting the Vikings, while the Cowboys would host the Seahawks.
If the seeds played out how they’d be expected to, the Cowboys would travel to San Francisco and the Saints would head north to Lambeau Field for a date with the Packers. The NFC is a lot more exciting, isn’t it?
How do you feel about these seedings? Will the Chiefs move up at all or are they destined to be the four seed?
