KC Chiefs: Four division realignments should Chargers move to London
By Cullen Jekel
Scenario 4: The New World Order, Part I
Full-blown realignment, dear readers.
Full. Blown. Re. A. Lign. Ment.
Like I previously wrote, if the NFL dares to dream to place a team in London, why not fully embrace a new identity? The NFL is shoving down its consumers’ throats this year that it’s the league’s 100th season.
Moving a team across an ocean is anything but our-league-is-celebrating-100-years-of-existence. It’s more, let’s-look-ahead-to-the-future. And I’m fine with that. But don’t stop there. Let’s go full crazy and change up the entire foundation of the league while we’re at it.
Now, as far as conference names, I couldn’t tell you, but I know that the “AFC” and “NFC” would have to go out the window. Should the NFL go pretentious like the Big 10 was* for a short time and name the conferences Leaders and Legends? Should it be like the NHL and NBA and be straightforward with it, going with Western Conference and Eastern Conference?
*Is.
I prefer the NHL/NBA model, but I also wouldn’t mind seeing a conference named after, say, Al Davis. How hilarious would that be? Or the Chargers’ original owner, Barron Hilton. Which conference would that even be, what with the Chargers move to London creating this entire mess–I mean, opportunity?
Anyway, back to the task at hand, but this task involves all 32 NFL teams split into eight divisions. Here are the first four divisions:
Rooney Conference, North Division
- Cincinnati Bengals
- Indianapolis Colts
- New Orleans Saints
- Tennessee Titans
Combination of the current South Divisions with one North team in there. It’s somewhat boring, honestly, but looks to be competitive outside of Ohio.
Rooney Conference, Capital Division
- Arizona Cardinals
- Chicago Bears
- Green Bay Packers
- Minnesota Vikings
Granted, the Arizona inclusion isn’t perfect here, but the Cardinals at one time placed in the NFC East, so, I mean, I’m just following the NFL’s lead here, you guys.
Rooney Conference, West Division
- Denver Broncos
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Las Vegas Raiders
- Seattle Seahawks
Looks familiar, right? Even without the Chargers, a very recognizable division for the Kansas City Chiefs and fans, albeit a tougher one.
Rooney Conference, Northeast Division
- Cleveland Browns
- Detroit Lions
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Pittsburgh Steelers
Both Pennsylvania teams get grouped with two of the league’s longest laughingstocks. You’re welcome, Pittsburgh and Philly.
