KC Chiefs: What we learned about each team in AFC West after week 8
WHAT DID WE LEARN ABOUT THE CHARGERS?
The Los Angeles Chargers aren’t good and really didn’t deserve to win on Sunday. Fortunately for them, they were playing against the offensively inept Chicago Bears and were able to escape the Windy City with a 17-16 victory. They were the only team in the division to come away with a win on Sunday.
Philip Rivers has been up and down this year and he looked pretty bad against the Bears. He completed 19 of 29 passes for just 201 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while getting sacked once. The run game did nothing for the Chargers once again, tallying just 36 yards on the ground. Good thing Melvin Gordon came back, right?
Mike Williams had a nice game, which is a plus for the Chargers since he was looking like a huge bust. He had three catches for 69 yards while Keenan Allen had seven receptions for 53 yards and looked good despite being banged up a bit.
The defense played well, but that’s not really a huge compliment when you’re going up against Mitchell Trubisky and company. The Bolts sacked Trubisky four times and forced him to fumble (which Melvin Ingram recovered), but they were run all over by rookie David Montgomery, who went for 135 yards and a touchdown.
Were it not for a boneheaded decision by Bears head coach Matt Nagy to kneel and have Eddy Pineiro kick it from 41 yards out when they could have gotten closer, LA might have been looking at a 2-6 record right now.
Even though the Chargers will be back in Los Angeles next weekend, it’ll continue to feel like they’re on the road, as the Green Bay Packers come to town and we all know how lopsided that crowd turnout will be.
Good luck, Chargers. You’re going to have a hard time hearing on offense.
