Mizzou football had a chance to get the fan base excited about the team again, but alas, the trip to Lexington did not go as planned, as the Tigers fell 29-7 at the hands of the Kentucky Wildcats.

Well, that wasn’t a good game for the Missouri Tigers.

After looking like a team that could legitimately win the SEC East, the Tigers slipped up majorly last week at Vanderbilt. While the loss was disappointing, many chalked it up to just a bad game and nothing more.

Yet, one week later, Missouri fell again; This time to the then 3-4 Kentucky Wildcats, who have had Mizzou’s number over the past few seasons.

More from Missouri Tigers

The loss drops MU to 5-3 on the year, so while their record is still above .500, the chances of winning the SEC East are basically impossible now. Missouri still has Florida and Georgia on the schedule, which, given how poorly the Tigers have played as of late, don’t seem like games the team can win.

The easiest thing to notice when it comes to Mizzou’s record this year is that they’re 5-0 at home and 0-3 when playing on the road. For whatever reason, the Tigers can’t seem to play well on the road this year, losing at Wyoming, at Vanderbilt, and at Kentucky.

Most conference contenders would easily be able to handle those three squads, even if the game was on the road, but not Missouri. This was another bad loss to a bad team and it’s shown that MU won’t be able to go on the road and win a big game this year (meaning a loss to Georgia is surely in the cards). The Florida game is in Columbia, however, so perhaps there’s hope in that match-up.

Kelly Bryant has looked bad the last few weeks, completing just ten passes for 130 yards and a touchdown against Kentucky. He has looked banged up recently and came up limping during this game, which led to Taylor Powell coming in and going four of ten for 34 yards.

No one in particular stood out in the run game, but the unit as a whole did well. Larry Rountree ran for 58 yards, which led the team.

The difference in this one was that the Missouri run defense was atrocious. They surrendered 297 yards on the ground along with four rushing touchdowns. Oh and 204 of those yards came via one guy; Lynn Bowden Jr., who had two of the four rushing scores for the Wildcats.

This now makes two straight bad losses for Mizzou football and it’s become glaringly obvious that this team can’t win games on the road. That’s especially bad, considering Missouri faces Georgia IN ATHENS next weekend.

That could get out of hand quickly.
