Here are some other options the KC Chiefs could consider at the backup quarterback spot for 2020 and potentially beyond.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

None of these choices would have fans jumping for joy, but they’d be serviceable options. Daniel spent three years in Kansas City and did well in the two starts he was forced into, but he’s gotten paid handsomely for being a career backup signal caller.

The rest would be desperation grabs by the Chiefs and wouldn’t exactly be exciting signings. Sudfeld could be interesting since he’s only 26 and the Eagles seem to really like him, but chances are he’ll be well sought after on the open market.

The Kansas City Chiefs could also decide to draft a quarterback in the mid to late rounds and groom that guy as a career backup to Mahomes. That wouldn’t be a crazy idea, though the Chiefs have a lot of other needs and spending a coveted draft choice on a quarterback might not be the brightest idea.

It might be too early to start thinking about this, but we’re about to see just how important a viable backup quarterback is in the NFL. If Matt Moore doesn’t do well during Mahomes’ absence, getting a solid backup could be a top priority this spring for the Kansas City Chiefs.

A Super Bowl could depend on it.
