The KC Chiefs defeated the Denver Broncos by a score of 30 to 6. The biggest news came from the injury to Patrick Mahomes that caused him to miss the rest of the game. Who were winners and losers in this match-up?

I didn’t feel great going into this game against the Denver Broncos and while the Kansas City Chiefs did indeed win the game, it came at a price; Patrick Mahomes was injured on a fourth and one quarterback sneak and missed the rest of the game.

Immediately after the injury occurred, I wrote a post on how the Chiefs should consider giving the Giants a call asking what it’ll take to get Eli Manning in Kansas City. We still don’t have official word on the severity of Mahomes’ injury, but the early reports seem promising. If Mahomes only misses a few weeks, then Matt Moore could be a serviceable option at quarterback.

Anyway, with this game in the books, let’s take a look at the winners and losers from this one, starting with a winner.

WINNER: MATT MOORE

It’s never easy being the backup quarterback (especially when you’re backing up the reigning MVP) and having to come in and lead the offense when an injury occurs. For Matt Moore, he had some big shoes to fill with Patrick Mahomes going down and while his numbers didn’t pop, he did what was asked of him. That was to be what they call a game manager.

Moore finished the night going 10/19 for 117 yards and a gem of a touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill. As mentioned above, if Mahomes only has to miss a few weeks, the Chiefs are in decent hands with Moore during that time. He won’t have the big time plays that Mahomes can provide, but he’s capable of being a game manager.

No one is as good as Mahomes, but Matt Moore did what was asked of him and that’s all you can ask of a backup signal caller.
