Kansas City Chiefs might want to give Giants a call about Eli Manning

The worst possible scenario happened for the Kansas City Chiefs during their Thursday night game against the Broncos; Patrick Mahomes was injured while attempting a quarterback sneak and missed the rest of the game.

With the injury to Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs now have a tall task ahead of them. We don’t know the severity of the injury quite yet, but if it ends up being an injured reserve situation or an extended period of time that Mahomes ends up missing, should the Chiefs contact the New York Giants about trading for Eli Manning?

Manning spent his entire career with the Giants, but with the struggles the Giants faced in their first two games, he was benched in favor of rookie first round pick Daniel Jones. Manning now is on the sidelines for the Giants and while he’s not what he once was, he might be a serviceable option to have in KC while Mahomes is out.

The Giants owe Manning roughly $11 million this year and would probably be more than willing to ship him to anyone that’s willing to take him.

Let’s just say it – The Chiefs aren’t a Super Bowl contender without Mahomes. They can, however, still win their division and maybe make a run in the playoffs, especially if the defense plays as well as they did in the first half (though no one’s offensive line is as bad as Denver’s).

I’ll be honest – I don’t think Matt Moore is a bad option to fill in for Mahomes. He hasn’t started a game since the 2017 season when he was still with the Dolphins, so the rust in the first half against the Broncos is to be expected.

That being said – If Mahomes is going to miss the entire season, Moore isn’t the guy to keep the ship afloat. Manning would be a much better option in that department.

Hopefully, fingers crossed, Mahomes’ injury isn’t severe and he only misses a few games. If that’s the case, then the Chiefs should just stick with Matt Moore. If, however, Mahomes ends up on the injured reserve, then Kansas City might want to look into trading for Eli Manning. Manning wasn’t necessarily bad this year, the team around him wasn’t ideal.

This probably won’t happen either way, but it’s worth pondering. Will the Chiefs end up giving a team a call about their quarterback? We won’t know until we know the final verdict on Patrick Mahomes’ injury, but for now, all of Kansas City is holding their breath.
