The MRI results on Patrick Mahomes’ knee are in and the news is better than what most of Kansas City Chiefs fans were expecting. It’s being said that Mahomes is expected to miss at least three weeks.

Exhale, Chiefs Kingdom. Patrick Mahomes‘ injury looked bad when he was hurt on a quarterback sneak against the Broncos, but somehow he was able to walk off the field on his own and now it’s being reported that the results were the best case scenario, as Mahomes is expected to miss three weeks.

Considering many fans felt like the season was over as soon as Mahomes went down, potentially having him back next month feels like a miracle. Matt Moore will continue to handle the starting quarterback duties while Mahomes is out, and Moore doesn’t have to be a wizard, just don’t lose games by making silly mistakes.

The offense will likely look like it did when Alex Smith was front and center for five years and the Chiefs saw success there. If the run game can get going and help Moore out, then the offense can keep this team afloat still.

Let’s say Mahomes does miss the next three games; That’d sideline him for next Sunday night against the Packers, the following Sunday against the Vikings, and a road game in Nashville versus the Titans. The next week is a road game in Mexico City against the Chargers and then KC has their bye week.

More from Patrick Mahomes

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least bit if the Chiefs opt to keep Mahomes out until after the bye week, but we’ll have to see how Matt Moore and company do over the next three weeks.

Yes, two of those three games are at home, but the Packers and Vikings are no slouch. Kansas City could probably squeak by the Titans in week ten, but we’ll have to see how this offense looks without their MVP talent at quarterback.

If the Chiefs can get through these three games with at least one win (likely against the Titans), they’d be 6-4 when Mahomes were set to return. If things continue to be tight in the division, the Chiefs might put him back out there against the Chargers.

The AFC West isn’t good, so Kansas City most definitely has a chance to win their fourth straight division title, but Oakland is within striking distance and that could be what pushes Mahomes’ return sooner if he is indeed ready to play.

If the Chiefs somehow fall off completely while Mahomes is out, then there won’t be much need to throw him back out there this season. This year looks like the Patriots will once again waltz to the Super Bowl and with Mahomes out, that’s even more evident.

Sigh.
