The KC Chiefs have a short week, traveling to Denver to play the Broncos on Thursday Night Football. It’s been two very different seasons for these two teams through six weeks.

Heading into the 2019 season, most analysts saw the AFC West coming down to either the Kansas City Chiefs or the Los Angeles Chargers. No one really expected much out of the Denver Broncos, but even then, their 0-4 start was surprising to say the least.

The Broncos lost two of those four games because of last second field goals by the other team, one by the Bears and one by the Jaguars. If those field goals don’t go through the uprights, the Broncos could be 4-2 right now, sitting with the same record as the Kansas City Chiefs and surprising a lot of people in Vic Fangio’s first year as the Broncos head coach.

It’s been a different story for the Kansas City Chiefs, as they had just about everything under the sun go right for them in the first month of the season. They were undefeated heading into the month of October and were the unquestioned best team in the AFC West, and considered by many as the second best team in the AFC.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Well – A lot can change in two weeks, as both of these teams and fan bases have discovered.

The Chiefs have gone 0-2 in October, losing both of those games at home to AFC South teams. The losses were very similar, with the opposition running the ball down Kansas City’s throat and the Chiefs looking sloppy on offense.

On the flip side, the Broncos are undefeated in October and while we’re still unsure if this team is any good or not, they can make a bigger statement on Thursday night if they hand the Chiefs their third straight loss.

Denver has nothing to lose in this game and that’s what makes them a dangerous opponent for the Chiefs, who are coming off two atrocious games and need a turnaround quick.

It’ll be interesting if the Broncos do knock off the Chiefs on Thursday because it’d put them at 3-4 and the Chiefs at 4-3. Denver would be one game back of the Chiefs for the top spot in the division (assuming the Raiders lose to Green Bay) after starting the season at 0-4. That’s quite the comeback after a winless month to begin their 2019 campaign.

It certainly has been the tale of two seasons for the KC Chiefs and Denver Broncos and while Thursday night’s game isn’t a deciding factor for what happens the rest of the season, it could answer a lot of questions for us about both teams.

If the Broncos want to make a statement, beating the Chiefs on Thursday night would be quite the statement to make in what looked to be a lost season.
