The Kansas City Chiefs host the Houston Texans on Sunday and with how badly the Chiefs run defense has been through five games, don’t be shocked when former Chief Carlos Hyde runs roughshod over KC.

There are a lot of Kansas City Chiefs fans feeling uneasy as the Houston Texans are set to roll into town this weekend for what should be a fun game at Arrowhead Stadium.

The uneasiness is mostly because the Chiefs are coming off their worse regular season loss since the Alex Smith days and because well – As much as we don’t want to come to terms with it – the Texans are quite good and could very well hand KC their second straight loss.

The loss to Indianapolis on Sunday was a bad game all around by Kansas City, but it was hard to ignore how poorly the run defense performed under the bright lights of Arrowhead. They allowed 180 rushing yards to the Colts and 130 of those yards were by Marlon Mack alone.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

While the Texans are definitely more of a passing team, they’d be smart to run the ball down KC’s throat and if they do, the man taking the majority of those carries would be former Chief Carlos Hyde.

Hyde spent the offseason with the Chiefs and showed next to nothing in the preseason. KC obviously felt fine with the talent they had and eventually sent Hyde to Houston in exchange for an offensive lineman who has yet to even play a down for the Chiefs.

To this point, Hyde has been a mixed bag for the Texans, totaling 310 yards and two touchdowns. He looked great in the first two games of the season, rushing for 83 yards in week one and 90 yards in week two, but didn’t find the end zone until week three. His yardage hasn’t been quite as good since those first two games, but don’t get it twisted – Hyde could do some serious damage against the Chiefs porous run game on Sunday.

For one, there’s the revenge factor for Hyde. The Chiefs clearly deemed him not good enough to play for them and sent him to the Texans instead.

Also, the Chiefs sit third to last in run defense, allowing an average of 155.8 yards per game. This has been an area that has plagued the Chiefs for years now and little has been done to address it despite it being a huge problem.

If the Texans are smart, they’d run the ball on every play and use Hyde as the work horse. If that ends up happening, Chiefs fans will probably be freaking out about how good Hyde looks, but don’t fall in that trap. He was traded for a reason and anyone could run for five yards a play against this Chiefs D.

Hyde has been battling injuries throughout the week, but according to his Pro Football Reference page, he’s expected to be on the field come Sunday. Hopefully the defense surprises us and we end up seeing some results against the run, but I won’t hold my breath on that one.
