Kansas City Chiefs don’t need to trade for wide receiver in 2019

The Kansas City Chiefs are not only one of the best teams in the AFC, but also one of the best teams in the entire NFL. Adding another wide receiver to this already electric offense seems unnecessary.

It’s always a good time watching Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs light up opposing defenses. The Chiefs have been dominant on the offensive side of the ball and players are excited to come to Kansas City and play with the reigning MVP.

We’ve all seen the slew of trade rumors floating around over the past few days, but one that has me a bit perplexed is automatically linking the Chiefs to any legitimate wide receiver that is on the trade block. Recent examples of this are Stefon Diggs and A.J. Green.

Don’t get me wrong, these are two electrifying receivers, but the Chiefs don’t need anymore receivers on their roster. Tyreek Hill is injured and others have stepped up in his absence. We saw Sammy Watkins take it to Jacksonville in the season opener, Demarcus Robinson kick some Raider butt in the Black Hole, and rookie Mecole Hardman tear it up against both the Raiders and the Ravens.

Oh, I didn’t even mention Travis Kelce, who has quietly been having his usual dominant season. He was even double teamed for most of last week’s game in Detroit and still had 80+ yards on the day.

There haven’t been any legitimate stories linking the Chiefs to either of these two receivers, but Chiefs fans jump all over these rumors the minute they start circulating.

I get if fans want the Chiefs to go after these guys so that the Patriots CAN’T get them, but what is another good reason for spending draft picks for unnecessary players? A.J. Green and Stefon Diggs would be luxuries to an already STACKED offense.

I’d much rather the team go out and add defensive playmakers who can help the team in an area where they’re actually struggling, and wide receiver isn’t one of those positions.

Adding a cornerback (hello Jalen Ramsey!) or run stopping defensive lineman or linebacker would be ideal for this team moving forward because the only way they’re going to make it to the Super Bowl is if their defense can make several big stops in a game. Sooner or later it’s going to come down to that.

While it’d be cool to see either Diggs or Green catching passes from Mahomes, that’s not a priority for this team. Hill will be rejoining the offense in the next few weeks hopefully and until then, the rest of the weapons have shown they can hold down the fort.

Wide receiver isn’t a need for this explosive Kansas City Chiefs offense, so let’s stop with the trade talk.
