Travis Kelce is the best tight end in the NFL, but the big storyline with him this year is how he’s really not being talked about during the Kansas City Chiefs’ 4-0 run, despite being his usual self.

No one is surprised by Travis Kelce‘s impressive four-game slate so far, but what is surprising is how he’s doing what he’s doing and no one is really talking about him all that much. Perhaps it’s because Kelce has toned down on the attitude or maybe it’s just because him putting up good numbers has become second nature. Either way, Kelce continues to do great things for this Kansas City Chiefs offense.

Here are Kelce’s game logs thus far:

  • Week 1 at Jacksonville – 3 rec, 88 yards
  • Week 2 at Oakland – 7 rec, 107 yards, TD
  • Week 3 vs Baltimore – 7 rec, 89 yards
  • Week 4 at Detroit – 7 rec, 85 yards

As you can see, Kelce has put up very similar stats in each of his four games this season. He should have had a touchdown in week one, but Patrick Mahomes decided to get cute and “no look” the throw, which he whiffed on.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Kelce’s currently sitting with 24 receptions for 369 yards and the lone touchdown in week two. He only has one touchdown so far, but that will definitely change, as it’s become a little easier to double team Kelce while Tyreek Hill is out. Once Hill is back on the field, Kelce will become even more of a nuisance to opposing defenses.

Even with Kelce being double teamed, as we saw on Sunday in Detroit, the guy still continues to make plays. Not only did he rack up 85 yards off of seven catches, but he had the tremendous idea to lateral the football to LeSean McCoy, who continued to build on the play and get the Chiefs further into Lions territory.

Chiefs Kingdom knows what Kelce is capable of, but it almost feels like he’s been forgotten about at times this season. Prior to the Detroit game, we saw big time performances from Sammy Watkins (week one), Demarcus Robinson (week two), and Mecole Hardman (weeks two and three),  which kind of took the attention off of Kelce, despite him consistently putting up numbers.

The Lions made it a point to double cover Travis Kelce and the All-Pro tight end continued to make plays and be the best offensive playmaker on the field (behind Mahomes obviously). The Chiefs will need him to continue to take charge while Hill is out because we saw that when defenses force the other other guys to consistently step up, they can’t do so all game long.

Travis Kelce still can though, and his quiet season hasn’t gone unnoticed to all. Keep on keepin’ on, Kelce!
