KC Chiefs: Five things we learned in week four win vs Lions
By Casey Adkins
The defense will be a mixed bag for a while
This is going to be a hot topic at the end of the season. The defense has improved greatly over last year, but it still has its issues.
The Chiefs defense got burnt and outmatched by the Lions and Detroit knew how to attack the defense and took advantage of it. A couple of mistimed blitzes, bad tackling, and massive holes doomed the KC defense on Sunday.
Things will get fixed and straightened out. Even at the quarter mark of the season, it is really hard to judge this group. For every good thing they do, we see shades of last season with the mistakes and bad play. The defense is good enough to take the team to the playoffs, but they have to fix things for this team to raise the Lombardi Trophy in February.
Even the best have their bad days
To say this offense played poorly is an understatement. Yes, Patrick Mahomes had another 300-yard passing day. Yes, the offense accounted for 27 of the 34 points again. You look at the box score and it looks like a phenomenal game for an offense.

Expectations are extremely high for this offense and have been ever since Mahomes took over. The timings were off, uncharacteristic fumbles and other mistakes that weren’t becoming of this offense took place in Detroit. That is okay because no elite unit is without their bad days.
Was it the defense? Was it the turf? Was it looking ahead to Sunday night against the Colts? Only the Chiefs and the coaches know, but no need to panic. Better to have a game like this now rather than in the Super Bowl. Andy Reid will get the offense back to where it was.
Conclusion
For my final thoughts, I just wanted to give a huge shoutout to Royals Manager Ned Yost who managed his last game this afternoon and a win no less. He helped bring a World Series to the Kansas City Metro for the first time in 30 years.
Sure the last couple of years didn’t go so well, but he acted like a bridge to the next era of the Royals. He is one of the last true player’s managers and he will be missed by every single Royals fan even if they don’t want to admit it.
Enjoy retirement skipper.
