Coming into the 2019 season, the hope was that Kansas football could get four, maybe five wins, and be competitive. Well, the Jayhawks absolutely dominated Boston College on Friday. Could this be a glimpse of what’s to come for KU?

Well, nobody saw that one coming.

Going into their game against the Boston College Eagles, who were ranked in the top 25 throughout most of the 2018 season, Kansas football was a heavy underdog. It’s not crazy to see why either, as the Jayhawks lost to Coastal Carolina last week and well – They’re Kansas football. They can’t seem to have nice things over the last decade.

That being said, this was an impressive win.

More from Kansas Jayhawks

Not only did Kansas beat Boston College, they SMOKED the Eagles to the tune of 48-24. It wasn’t even a close game. To make matters worse for Boston College, this game took place ON THEIR HOME TURF. It was Kansas’ first road win against a Power-5 opponent since 2008.

So, what went well for the Jayhawks in this one?

For starters, their run game exploded in this one, gaining 329 yards on the ground and finding the end zone three times. Khalil Herbert and Pooka Williams played out of their freaking minds, with Herbert leading the team in rushing with 187 yards off 12 carries and Williams adding 121 yards on 22 carries. Both guys had a touchdown a piece.

Quarterback Carter Stanley had one of his best games as a Jayhawk, going 20 of 29 for 238 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Stanley looked lost last week, but he was a whole different quarterback against the Eagles, with just nine incompletions on the evening. He looked great. It helped that his offensive line protected him, not allowing a single sack.

The defense had its “Oof!” moments, but for the most part, they held their own, only allowing 24 points on the night. That was plenty of effort considering their offense put up 48 on the scoreboard. The defense did surrender over 220 rushing yards (with 151 going to AJ Dillon), but they held Boston College’s passing game to 219 yards.

I’ll be completely honest here. Had David Beaty been the head coach for the Kansas Jayhawks on Friday night, it’s probably not a victory. If it were, it’d have been a close one that they scraped out in the final minutes. The Les Miles Effect already looks real for KU football fans and we saw it on full display last night.
