The Royals have been able to put together what resembles a competitive infield with 3B/OF – Hunter Dozier (2019 breakout), SS – Adalberto Mondesi (potential star), 2B/Utility – Whit Merrifield (topping hits leader board), 2B/SS – Nicky Lopez, 1B – Ryan O’Hearn and Ryan McBroom (2020 breakout candidates), and C – Salvador Pérez and Meibrys Viloria.

The Royals outfield, starting pitching staff, and bullpen are currently in question as we head closer toward the 2020 offseason. The Royals will be in a position to give plenty of at-bats to outfielders Brett Phillips and Bubba Starling in 2020.

The looming decision to bring Alex Gordon back on his last year of this contract could leave a vacancy in left field. It is a fair bet the disappointing 2019 starting pitching staff and the bullpen will be addressed this off-season with trades, bargain value free-agents, and the Rule 5 Draft.

The 2020 off-season is shaping up to have lots of young talent available coming from some of the more talented rosters in the MLB. The Royals Front Office may be convinced their positional roster is ready (some outfield additions required) and their starting pitching prospects are on their way.
