The Kansas City Chiefs begin their 2019 season on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who could pose more problems than fans are anticipating. What are some other trap games on the 2019 schedule?

Even though fans expect the Kansas City Chiefs to make a serious run at the Super Bowl in the 2019 season, there’s always a game or two every year that trips up even the most legitimate of contenders. These are often referred to as trap games, where a favored team loses against an inferior opponent.

Let’s check out some trap games on the Chiefs schedule this year.

WEEK ONE – AT JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

More from Kansas City Chiefs

As mentioned in the introduction, the Jaguars fall into this category. Between a new quarterback, a good run game, a lethal defense, and the hot and humid weather that sunny Florida has to offer, it could be a much tougher opening game for the Chiefs than fans are expecting.

Jacksonville came pretty darn close to representing the AFC in the Super Bowl two years ago and people have suddenly forgot about them. Their biggest problem last year was Blake Bortles and he’s the backup for the Rams now. With an upgrade at quarterback (Hi, Nick Foles!) and Jalen Ramsey, Josh Allen, and a slew of other talented defenders, this could be a game where the home team reigns supreme.

WEEK SEVEN – AT DENVER BRONCOS (TNF)

This one makes the list for a slew of reasons. The first being that it’s a road game, which is always grueling to the team having to make the trip. The second is that it’s a Thursday night game, meaning the Chiefs will play the Texans on Sunday and then have three days to prepare and travel to Denver for this game.

The Broncos have also lost seven straight games to the Chiefs, so one might say they’re due for a victory against one of their most hated rivals. All of those reasons factor into why the Denver Broncos in week seven could spell doom for the Kansas City Chiefs.

WEEK TEN – AT TENNESSEE TITANS

The Titans probably won’t be very good this year, but for whatever reason, they’ve had the Chiefs’ number over the last decade or so. With the Chargers on tap the week after this, it’s very possible that Kansas City looks ahead to that game and maybe doesn’t focus on the Titans as much as they should. Circle this one as a potential trap game for the Chiefs.

WEEK 13 VS RAIDERS

I know, I know, it’s the Raiders and they’re a mess of an organization. With that said, they typically play the Chiefs tough and similar to the Titans game with Los Angeles on the schedule the next week, KC plays the Patriots in week 14. It’s very possible that the Chiefs go into this one thinking the Raiders are going to – Well, be the Raiders – and cough up a winnable game.

WHAT GAMES DO YOU THINK COULD BE TRAPS?

The Kansas City Chiefs have the talent to get them to a 12-4 record, at the worst, but they have to win these potential trap games. Winning the big games is great, but you have to beat the inferior teams. There’s no excuse not to.
