WHAT TO WATCH VS JAGUARS

New Defensive Debuts

This will be the regular season debut for new defensive coordinator Steve Spanuolo and a rebuilt Chiefs defense.

In over 15 years working in the NFL, Spagnuolo has worked on the defensive side of the ball most of his career and under Andy Reid in Philadelphia from 1999 to 2006. After a year’s sabbatical from coaching, Spagnuolo will be looking to build on his reputation and lead this defense to greater heights.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

With a new coach came new players as well.

The Chiefs spent all off-season completely overhauling their defense and bring in new faces. The most notable players the Chiefs brought in were defensive end Frank Clark via trade with Seattle and strong safety Tyrann Mathieu through free agency.

Both players will be watched closely as they will be the guys to lead this defense and bring back a much needed attitude and swagger that Kansas City needs.

Along with Mathieu and Clark are guys like Brashad Breeland, Alex Okafor, Damien Wilson, Darron Lee, and Emmanuel Ogbah who have all seen time on the field prior to coming to Kansas City. These free agent acquisitions will be ones that will further solidify the off-season as good or bad for Brett Veach moving forward.
