Week 2 – Kansas City Chiefs at Oakland Raiders (Matthew)

For week 2, the Kansas City Chiefs travel to Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum for its first AFC
West contest of the season. The Chiefs currently hold the all-time series record at 65-53-2 and
don’t expect them to add another mark in the losers column soon.

During the Andy Reid era, the Chiefs have dominated the Oakland Raiders only falling to them twice. Since coming to KC, Andy Reid has outscored the Oakland by 149 points in 12 games, averaging over 30 points per game and allowing just a little over 18 against. If we were to keep a running total of all the quarters, the score would be Chiefs 366-Raiders 217.

With new additions to the Oakland offense in Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams, and rookie running
back Joshua Jacobs, the Chiefs defense is still going to have a little work cut out for them, but
there has been one constant over the past five years and his name is Derek Carr.

Once entering the league, Carr has gone 2-3 at home and 2-8 overall against the Chiefs in his career. Over the past five years he has put up his best numbers against Kansas City playing at his home stadium.

Across the line of scrimmage for Oakland is a remade defense with guys that are going to have
to keep up with the Chiefs high-powered offense. The most notable additions are rookie defensive
end Clelin Ferrell and former Rams cornerback Lamarcus Joyner.

In the two games Patrick Mahomes has played against Oakland, he has carved them up for over 500 yards and six  touchdowns, so that looks pretty good on paper.

PREDICTION: Oakland’s new offense makes an early push, but not enough to hang with the “Legion of Zoom.” Chiefs run away with it in the fourth quarter behind the arm of Showtime Mahomes.

Kansas City Chiefs 42, Oakland Raiders 24

STANDOUT PLAYER: Frank Clark carries the defensive workload racking up 3.5 Sacks and a Forced Fumble.

RECORD: 2-0
