On Saturday, Nebraska football kicks off their 2019 season in Lincoln with a non-conference game against the South Alabama Jaguars. That’s as easy as the schedule gets for Big Red.

In Week Two, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have their first Power Five match-up of the season, on the road against old Big 12 foe, Colorado. After dealing with the Buffaloes, it’s another non-conference game against Northern Illinois before the nine-game gauntlet known as Big Ten conference play begins with a road game against Illinois.

Previously, I dug into not only how I saw the Huskers season playing out, but that of the entire Big Ten West, which figures to be one of the most exciting and competitive Power Five divisions in all the conferences.

For this article, I’m going to take a look at three games that will be the toughest contests for the Huskers in Scott Frost’s second year as head coach. Fortunately for the Huskers, two of these games take place in Lincoln. Additionally, two of them are divisional games, so even if the team manages just to split them, things may shape up nicely.

And if the Huskers manage to win all three of these games? Well, not only would Nebraska lay claim to the Big Ten West, but this squad would have all of the confidence in the world going into the Big Ten Championship Game against the winner of the East.

Let’s work our way backward with the easiest–relatively speaking, of course–of the toughest games.
