A lot of these guys were repeat MVP winners and are always in the discussion to win the league’s Most Valuable Player title year after year. Mahomes hasn’t quite put himself on that level yet, as he’s still incredibly young and we see one-hit wonders at quarterback all the time.
Winning an MVP as a second-year player and first-year starter is very impressive and it’ll be fun to see what Mahomes does as an encore this year. He’ll have a good variety of weapons and motivation to take him past the AFC Championship Game and into the Super Bowl, something the Chiefs couldn’t pull off last year.
Looking at this list, only one MVP quarterback had a questionable season after winning the award and that was Cam Newton. His numbers weren’t bad by any means, but the Panthers failed to make the playoffs that year and Newton posted a 6-8 record as the starter in 2016.
While we’ll continue to see Rodgers and Brady grouped into the MVP discussions, Mahomes can become one of those mainstays in the conversation if he has yet another MVP-caliber season in 2019. He sure has the weapons and the talent to wow us all over again this year.
