It’s that time of year again; Players Weekend in Major League Baseball! For the Kansas City Royals, that means it’s time to get creative and come up with some nicknames to don on the back of their jerseys.

Remember back when the XFL was a thing and the coolest part of it was that players got to wear nicknames on the back of their jerseys? Well, Players Weekend in Major League Baseball offers that aspect as well!

One of the funniest things about this year’s crop of Player’s Weekend nicknames for the Kansas City Royals is that Danny Duffy and Alex Gordon clearly wanted to confuse the hell out of everyone.

How so, you ask?

Well, on Gordon’s number four jersey “DUFFMAN” is on the back while Duffy’s number 41 jersey has “GORDO” on the back. I appreciate this kind of silly humor, but some people legitimately probably thought it was a mistake by the Royals organization when they announced it.

Bravo, fellas. Bravo.

How can you not emotional over Mondesi making his Players Weekend nickname Ace? We all still miss Yordano Ventura dearly and this was Mondesi’s way of honoring him, even years after his death.

Dozier’s nickname is simple, but great. For those who don’t get it, the end of bulldozer sounds like Dozier, so he just abbreviated it.

Barlow’s is included on here mainly because it made me laugh and would be a nickname that I’d pick something similar to. Anytime I used to take part in fantasy football mock drafts, I’d always put something silly in front of the word “McGee” and thought it was the funniest thing in the world.

While the 2019 Players Weekend uniforms have left something to be desired, the nicknames usually don’t disappoint too much. Sure, some guys should loosen up and have more fun with it (a lot of players on other teams utilized the heck out of emojis for their nicknames this year), but for the most part, the guys let their personalities shine through and that’s what the weekend is intended for.

It is Players Weekend after all, meaning its the players’ time to show their personality and have some fun. But hey, if they’re all business, that’s okay too, I guess.
