Year one of the Scott Frost era wasn’t great for Nebraska football, but we saw glimpses of what the future could look like in the final month and a half of the season. In year two, the sky’s the limit for the Huskers.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have a ton of hype surrounding them heading into 2019, which is the second year under head coach Scott Frost.

The biggest reason for the believed turnaround is recruiting, as Frost did an excellent job in his first true offseason at the helm. The Huskers finished the recruiting season ranked 19th in 2019 recruitment classes, according to 247 Sports.

247 Sports also high hopes for the Cornhuskers in 2019, penciling them in for a prime bowl game. They predict them to be a participant in the Citrus Bowl against Texas A&M.

More from Nebraska Cornhuskers

"How amped are Huskers fans about the possibilities this season with dynamic quarterback Adrian Martinez entering Year 2 under Scott Frost’s tutelage? If there’s a darkhorse conference title contender in the Big Ten, Nebraska should be the heavily-circuited choice. The Aggies aren’t quite there yet, but they will be."

Hard to disagree with any of that. Nebraska does have a lot of hype and those who don’t follow the program or Big Ten football are probably wondering what the Huskers did to deserve it.

Some outlets even have Nebraska ranked in the top 25 heading into this year! That’s crazy to see a four-win program from a season ago (who started out 0-6, mind you) now slotted in at 20th in the nation. Nebraska has the history and the respect to merit that kind of jump, but it’s still crazy how quick of a turnaround could be in the making this year.

Along with the strong recruitment class, this is a team that had a year to work together and grow together. Adrian Martinez is heading into year two at quarterback and could be a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate this year.

He has Wandale Robinson as a hopeful prime weapon on the offense, and while Robinson is an incoming freshman, the hope is that he’ll be a huge piece for the Huskers on offense. The defense also looks to be much improved from a season ago and we all know that running game will be as solid as its always been.

There’s a lot to like about Nebraska football this year, but their schedule also puts them in contention for 2019. As Cullen Jekel of KC Kingdom wrote about earlier this week (see link below), the Cornhuskers are contenders in their conference because of their schedule and how difficult the other contenders’ schedules are.

dark. Next. Huskers Jump Back Into Competition in 2019

After a 4-8 season, Nebraska fans are eager to see their Huskers turn it around in 2019. They have the tools necessary to do so and this year should be a special one for Big Red. Maybe it ends with a Big Ten Championship game appearance, but even if it doesn’t, it’s hard not to see Nebraska winning at least eight games this season, which would be plenty to get them into a bowl game.

What expectations do you have for your Cornhuskers this year, Big Red?
