Aaron Rodgers has the potential year in and year out to grab the award, but with a new head coach and a team under some construction, it may be an uphill battle for Rodgers to win it. Carson Wentz has a legitimate shot on a talented Eagles team, but he will have to put together a fully healthy season in order to do so.
The New York Giants’ Saquon Barkley has the capability and even looked like an MVP candidate in 2018 in his rookie season. Unfortunately, for him, he plays for a team that likely won’t make a lot of noise with the personnel around him. Out of the last 20 seasons, 16 of the MVP’s were quarterbacks, with the other four being running backs. Outside of being a quarterback or running back, it’s historically much harder to win the award. Quarterback or not, the players listed here will definitely challenge Mahomes as the league’s most valuable player.
Fortunately, for Chiefs Kingdom, Mahomes plays the position that most people look to for the award. He’s also surrounded by one of the better supporting casts and group of coaches in the entire league.
After nearly reaching the Super Bowl last year, Patrick Mahomes looks primed again to make a big push, not just as the league MVP but as the Super Bowl MVP as well.
