Kansas City Royals: Farm system looks to be improving
The Kansas City Royals had to tear their farm system down a bit when they were contending for a World Series and it’s shown over the last few years. The farm system does appear to be improving however.
When the Kansas City Royals were one of the best teams in all of Major League Baseball in 2015, the question suddenly became would they be willing to give up prospects to get key players? Well, they ended up doing just that and it paid off, as they won the World Series in 2015.
In the years after the title, however, the farm system was among one of the worst in all of baseball. The good news, however, is that the minor leagues are starting to look much better for the Royals organization.
Baseball America updated their top 100 prospects and four members of the KC Royals farm system made the cut!

Bobby Witt Jr., the second overall pick in this year’s draft, makes his debut as the 21st best prospect in all of baseball. The 19-year old shortstop and designated hitter is slashing .266/.309/.313 with six RBI in 61 at bats in the Arizona league. He’s stolen six bases as well.
Jackson Kowar, the 33rd pick in last year’s draft, has spent time in both High-A ball and Double-A this year. He’s currently pitching for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in Double-A, posting an ERA of 3.12 and a WHIP of 1.26 in 34.2 innings pitched. He looked dominant in High-A ball and the fact that he’s doing even better in Double-A is a good sign for sure.
Daniel Lynch, the 34th pick in last year’s draft, was banged up for a bit, but he’s had a nice 2019 campaign. The former Virginia pitcher was sporting an ERA of 3.09 and a WHIP of 1.33 in 55.1 innings before he missed time with an injury. He has a 1.80 ERA in five innings pitched during his rehab stint with Burlington.
Brady Singer, the 18th pick in last year’s draft and the Royals’ first pick that year, was dominating at High-A before he was promoted to Double-A about a month ago. He’s gotten roughed up a bit in Northwest Arkansas, currently sitting with a 4.53 ERA and 1.44 WHIP through 47.2 innings pitched. He’s struck out 40 while walking 15 batters.
It’s definitely a good thing to see four Royals pop up on Baseball America’s top 100 prospects list. The hope is that the Royals can get some more prospects over the trade deadline and that maybe they can jumpstart the rebuild a bit.
For now though, this is a nice start and certainly should give Royals fans hope for the future.
