Former Green Bay Packer and now current free agent Mike Daniels is on the open market and looking for a new team to bless with his talents. Could the Kansas City Chiefs be that team?

Mike Daniels is a seven year vet who has spent his entire career in Green Bay. Weighing in over 300 lbs and standing at 6 feet tall, Daniels is a force on the defensive line. Daniels is a one-time Pro Bowler (2017) and has appeared on NFLs top 100 players three years straight. The Kansas City Chiefs should consider bringing him in.

Daniels career stat line reads as this:

  • Games Played: 102
  • Games Started: 72
  • Total Tackles: 236
  • Tackles for Loss: 47
  • Sacks: 29
  • Forced Fumbles: 2

With the defensive line being a part of the needs for this new defense, Daniels could be a guy the Chiefs could plug into the line-up and be a contributor right away. With multiple years of experience you know what you are getting from him. In this case, the Kansas City Chiefs would have time to acclimate him to the defense and give him a chance to learn a new playbook and gain chemistry with new teammates.

Bringing in Daniels would also push for more competition in camp and could also give new guys like Khalen Saunders, Derrick Nnadi, and Tim Ward a chance to look into the playbook and learn more about their new team and grow. It could also push other veteran guys out of playing time Xavier Williams and Justin Hamilton.

A downfall to this is having to take on a contract that is unexpected.

With Chris Jones currently holding out, bringing in a new face to the defensive line could cause more of an issue and cause rumors to start flying. It could also send a message, good or bad, to Jones that the Chiefs are going to be playing this season with or without him. In that case, Daniels would be able to fill his role as a big man in the middle of the line.

Daniels, being a man who knows what he wants, is said to be looking for a team who is going to contend now. The Chiefs could be the first team in line for him and his agent to contact with the current need for defensive players.

Whether the Chiefs give Mike Daniels a look or not is yet to be seen but it either way it will have its advantages and disadvantages. He could definitely bring a lot more talent to a much needed position and provide experience and knowledge among this growing defense.
