Kansas City Chiefs: Toughest stretch of games in 2019
The Kansas City Chiefs have high hopes in 2019, but their schedule has its fair share of challenging opponents. What is the toughest stretch of games for the Chiefs?
In order to get back to where the Kansas City Chiefs were in the 2018 season, they’ll have to run roughshod over the opposition during the regular season. It won’t be easy, as there are some truly difficult games on the schedule.
When looking at the Chiefs schedule this year, the toughest stretch of games come from December 8th to 29th. This near-month stretch of games will take place on these dates and against the following opponents:
- December 8th – at New England Patriots
- December 15th – Denver Broncos
- December 22nd – at Chicago Bears
- December 29th – Los Angeles Chargers
The last few years it has seemed like the Chiefs have had some “easier” late season games on their schedule, with the tougher slate of games coming earlier in the season. This year, however, the last four games are brutal for Kansas City.

The first game out of this stretch is in Foxboro against the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. The Chiefs went 0-2 against the Patriots last year, including in the AFC Championship Game that took place at Arrowhead Stadium. It’s no surprise that this battle will take place at the 3:25CST time slot in week 14, making it a primetime affair.
The following week doesn’t necessarily come against a tough opponent, but any time the Chiefs go up against an AFC West rival, anything can happen. The Chiefs play the Broncos in week seven IN Denver and on Thursday Night Football, and those games tend to favor the home team. That’s why this game in week 15 could be even more important.
In week 15, the game will be held in Kansas City and hopefully by that point, the Chiefs are looking to make it four straight seasons of sweeping the Donkeys.
Next up is a road trip to the Windy City for a Sunday night rendezvous against the Chicago Bears, led by former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. The Bears made the playoffs last year after winning the NFC North and narrowly lost to the Eagles. Nagy is a member of the Andy Reid coaching tree, so it’ll be interesting to see what he comes up with against his former protege.
The final game on this slate, and the final game of the regular season, could end up being a big one. It’s at Arrowhead Stadium against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Last year saw both the Chiefs and the Chargers go 12-4 with the Kansas City Chiefs winning the AFC West due to strength of schedule. LA will fight for the division title again and this final game could end up being the deciding factor in who reigns supreme in the AFC West.
These four games are no joke. Sure, the Broncos game might look easy on paper, but coming in between such tough match-ups, it’s not unfathomable for the Chiefs to maybe let up and look ahead to the Bears and/or Chargers.
Which stretch of games do you think will be the most difficult, Chiefs fans?
