One other piece of Royals rumors involved the team sending speedy Terrance Gore to the Yankees for cash considerations.

The Royals planned on using Gore’s speed as a weapon primarily off the bench. This was done because Gore has never been much of a threat with his bat.

For this reason his trade value was not at a premium. What helped the Royals and Gore (either get something of value or go to contending team) is Major League Baseball’s decision to cut the August waiver deals. Doing away with the late season waiver deals puts pressure on teams to act more quickly on players such as Gore if they want to use a particular asset in the playoffs.

For the Royals, they simply added cash for a player who would not net them any prospects or rebuilding projects. The unfolding scenario was the best case scenario for both the Royals and Terrance Gore.

Trading Gore also allowed the Royals to see what they have in Bubba Starling. While this isn’t a make or break season for Starling, giving him a half of a season in the majors will allow the Royals to see if he is a building block or a trade candidate next season.
