Outside of the running backs listed here, the Chiefs will also face Jacksonville’s Leonard Fournette in week one, Indianapolis’ Marlon Mack in week five, Minnesota’s Dalvin Cook in week nine, and Denver’s Phillip Lindsay in weeks seven and fifteen.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

That spreads out some notable names throughout the season. The Chiefs will need to be ready to stop a variation of talented running backs and their different playing styles all season long.

After watching the Chiefs give up 176 rushing yards and four touchdowns in the AFC Championship game, it’s clear that the chance to reach the Super Bowl means stopping the ground game. A defense with a new identity should help in that process. A Patrick Mahomes-led offense can also help by putting a lot of points on the board and forcing teams to go to the passing game.

It would be incredible if Kansas City’s defense could play like the 2014 group and not allow a rushing touchdown for the first ten games and only give up four altogether on the season. A 2019 Chiefs defense playing lights out combined with their high-powered offense would make a run to the Super Bowl much more tangible.
