This year hasn’t been a great one for the Kansas City Royals, but fortunately there have been some pleasant surprises.

The biggest surprise has definitely been Hunter Dozier, who is batting .282 and tearing the cover off the baseball. His grand slam against Cleveland was one of the most memorable moments of the season for this team and even though he’s 27, he provides hope for this team during this rebuild.

Ian Kennedy has been a nice surprise too, going from a lackluster starter to the most reliable reliever. His 3.60 ERA and 11 saves have turned him from being potentially the worst free agent signing of all-time to maybe being third or fourth all-time on that list (sorry, but it’s true).

Alex Gordon’s mega-deal hasn’t panned out for the Royals either, but he’s been a nice offensive player this year. He’s batting .275 and still continuing to be one of the best in the league defensively in the outfield. After seeing three straight down years from Gordo, it’s been great to see him rebound and potentially ride off into the sunset on a high note.

Cheslor Cuthbert isn’t a name that many expected to hear from again this year, but he’s done well in his few opportunities. He’s batting .288 and has shown the team that he’s worth keeping around for a bit longer.
