The Kansas City Chiefs played in a record breaking game against the Los Angeles Rams last year and it was named as the Best Game at the 2019 ESPYS.

When looking back at the Kansas City Chiefs‘ 2018 season, one game sticks out above the rest even if the end result wasn’t what Chiefs fans wanted. That game is the one against the Los Angeles Rams, which was set on Monday Night Football in week 11 of the regular season.

If you’ll remember – The game was supposed to take place in Mexico City, but field conditions led to it being moved to Los Angeles the week of. That set up for the Rams to have home field advantage in what would be the most exhilarating game of the 2018 season.

As mentioned above, the result of the game wasn’t the most memorable, with the Chiefs ultimately losing by a score of 54-51. It was a game packed with non-stop action and even though 105 total points were scored, there was some defense involved, believe it or not.

The two quarterbacks were the stars of the show with Patrick Mahomes throwing for 448 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions while Rams quarterback Jared Goff tossed for 379 yards and four touchdowns. He was sacked five times while Mahomes was sacked three times.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Remember how I said the defenses did actually make an impact in this game despite the high score? Well, the Rams secondary picked off Mahomes three times, including two critical interceptions near the end to essentially win it for the Rams.

Both quarterbacks lost two fumbles each, with one of Mahomes’ going back the other way for six and one of Goff’s fumbles also being returned for a touchdown. The Rams also had a pick six off of Mahomes. So while the two defenses surrendered over 1,000 yards and 105 points, they did make an impact in this Monday night match-up.

Had the Kansas City Chiefs won this game, it’d easily have gone down as one of the most memorable game in franchise history. Unfortunately, they were on the losing side of things, and it’s just not as fun to rehash things when your team is on the losing end.

With that said, this game showed that the Chiefs were a force to be reckoned with last year and many analysts had this as a surefire Super Bowl match-up. Analysts were also freaking out because they figured this was going to be the new way in the NFL. That part didn’t happen fortunately, but the Chiefs and Rams playing each other in the biggest game of the season would have been a blast.

Sadly, things didn’t turn out that way (it should have been Chiefs vs Saints in the Super Bowl if we’re being totally honest, but I’m not still bitter or anything), but maybe we’ll get a rematch of this game in a future Super Bowl.

Until then, we’ll just have to look back and remember all of the ups and downs this game provided.
