The KC Royals had two pitchers representing them in the 2019 MLB Futures Game – Brady Singer and Kris Bubic – and both guys did their part in helping the American League win the game by pitching shutout innings.

Initially, Brady Singer was the only Kansas City Royals representative in this year’s Futures Game, but Kris Bubic was bumped up a few days after the roster was announced. Both pitchers were drafted by the organization last year, with Singer being the team’s first selection and Bubic being their fourth pick.

Singer, as we know, hailed from the University of Florida where Royals fans got to watch him pitch for the Gators in the 2018 College World Series. That was a cool experience for Royals fans, who got to see their hopeful future ace before he even donned the KC on his cap.

Bubic wasn’t as big of a name, as Stanford wasn’t in the College World Series last year. He was solid for the Cardinal during his time there and has been dominating on the mound in 2019, so him getting the nod to pitch in the Futures Game wasn’t the least bit surprising.

More from Kansas City Royals

As for their performances in the big game, both guys came in and did their job admirably. Bubic entered the game in the fourth inning to help the AL get out of a bases loaded situation. While he gave up a run, it wasn’t charged to him and he went on to strikeout a batter. The inning ended by a National League prospect getting caught stealing home (which he looked safe, but there’s no replay in the Futures Game).

Singer also did well, but had a bit of a bumpy start. He walked the leadoff guy and also allowed a single not long after. He finished the inning with two strikeouts and it was hard not to be impressed with what we saw from last year’s first round pick.

These are two pitchers that fans hope to see more from because they could end up being big arms in the rotation in the coming years. If nothing else, perhaps they could be used as relievers, but it’s evident after their outings in the Futures Game that the Kansas City Royals might have struck gold with both of these selections.

With how poorly the Royals rotation has performed this year, seeing not one, but two potential studs in the farm system rise to the occasion was certainly a welcomed sight. Let’s hope these guys are ready for the challenge when their eventual MLB call-ups arrive.
