KC Royals: Starters in 2019 All-Star Game that Royals missed out on
These were just the All-Star starters that the Royals missed out on. This article didn’t go into the reserves or the pitchers that could have been in Kansas City for the start of their careers.
Initially I was going to dive into all of the All-Stars that could have worn the KC on their cap, but ended up just leaving it at the starters. It’s crazy that Mike Trout somehow fell to the 25th overall pick ten years ago, but that’s what happened. The Royals had taken Aaron Crow long before Trout’s name went off the board.

While the 2010 selection of Christian Colon looks better because of his clutch plays in the 2014 and 2015 postseasons, it still would have been nice to have Christian Yelich on the team at some point.
The 2011 pick of Bubba Starling looks bad now, but hopefully he’s on his way to the bigs in the coming weeks. Javier Baez or George Springer donning a Royals uniform would have been great though and both guys have gone on to do great things for the franchises that drafted them.
The takeaway from all of this is that the Royals haven’t been drafting great for the last decade or so, but hopefully that will be changing. The collegiate pitchers taken in last year’s draft have been making waves in the minor leagues this season, so hopefully they can make the draft track record a little more positive.
Which of these missed picks do you consider to be the most painful?
