The Kansas City Chiefs have Super Bowl aspirations in 2019 and they have the talent to get to the biggest game in the sport. Gil Brandt of NFL.com has them listed as the seventh most talented team heading into this year.

The article, written on June 20th, lists the top ten most talented teams on paper for the 2019 season. Gil Brandt is a big name in football and whenever he compliments the Kansas City Chiefs, that’s a big honor for Chiefs fans (or it should be anyway).

In Brandt’s section on the Chiefs, he mentions how the Chiefs show no signs of slowing down with Patrick Mahomes at the helm. It’s hard to disagree with that considering Mahomes won the MVP award in just his first full year as a starter and second year in the league.

Brandt does bring up how we’re all unsure of what the future holds for Tyreek Hill regarding a possible suspension, so that could hinder the Chiefs’ offense to start the year. With that said, however, the Chiefs still have Travis Kelce, Sammy Watkins, and Mecole Hardman, who Brandt mentions is “a promising rookie”.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The NFL Hall of Famer also discusses how the defense improved from its (mostly) lackluster performance from a season ago.

Along with bringing on Steve Spagnuolo to run the defensive side of things, the Chiefs also brought in the likes of Tyrann Mathieu, Frank Clark, Alex Okafor, Bashaud Breeland, and even landed Juan Thornhill in the draft. Brandt mentions that Chris Jones is still waiting for a contract and that has been a fairly big storyline this offseason.

As for the other entries on the list, the Eagles are number one followed by the Cowboys, Bears, Rams, and Patriots. All five of those teams were in the playoffs in 2019, with two of them making the Super Bowl.

Numbers six through ten are the Chargers, Chiefs, Saints, Browns, and Colts. I wouldn’t have the Browns that high or even on the list, mainly because I feel they’re being overhyped and they need to win big games first, but Brandt mostly has the list right for the most part.

The Kansas City Chiefs will continue to be a fun team to watch in 2019 and their talent obviously plays a huge part in that. Their defense hopefully takes the next step this year and can help get them to a Super Bowl.
