KC Royals: Stadium near Legends could be better option than downtown
By John McCarty
The experience of a downtown park, grabbing a beer before heading over to the stadium or grabbing a bite to eat after the game is an experience headlined by the atmosphere at Wrigley with the Cubs and found with many downtown parks.
No matter where the stadium goes, it’s unlikely the Royals will have roof top seats to add a unique ambiance and atmosphere. The Legends, however, already has restaurants and bars that would allow for the fans to experience of before and after baseball game enjoyment.
Also, the Legends has the Hollywood Casino, with bars, restaurants and, oh that other thing, a casino. Nothing provides a post game activity quite like heading over the casino to lay down some money on the blackjack table that wasn’t used to buy the $10 hot dog.
Once the state of Kansas gets off its hand and legalizes sports betting, the casino would rake in money of fans stopping in before the game to throw a twenty dollar bill on the outcome of a game on their way to a stadium.
As little and perhaps overly discussed topic, is parking. Simply put, downtown, there is limited parking, and that’s putting it nicely.
While some of the young fans are not opposed to dropping a $20 bill to park for a baseball game, the older folks with the season tickets often want better parking. Bring up a new ballpark with a discussion with someone at a bar and at some point, parking becomes a point of discussion.
The Legends provides ample general parking already established. With the racetrack having acres of unpaved lots that could provide fans a place to park while they head off to the ballpark. Limited paved parking already exists at the Legends and a new stadium could come with paved parking locations for those fans that crave a paved parking location.
