Three of the KC Royals’ selections in the 2019 MLB Draft are taking part in this year’s College World Series. Let’s take a look at what these players did in 2019 for their respective teams and how they’ve looked in the tourney so far.

For Kansas City Royals fans who need some type of rooting interest in the 2019 College World Series, you’re in luck! The Royals have three draft picks who are currently in Omaha hoping to win the College World Series with their respective program.

It is worth noting that none of these three players have officially signed with the Royals yet, so there’s a chance that they don’t end up joining the organization. For now, however, let’s pretend that they do indeed sign with the team.

Here are the players partaking in the “Greatest Show on Dirt”:

More from Kansas City Royals

  • Drew Parrish, LHP (Florida State)
  • A.J. Franklin, LHP (Vanderbilt)
  • Elliott Anderson, LHP (Auburn)

As you can see, all three are left-handed pitchers. The Royals don’t have any position players in Omaha.

Drew Parrish wowed on Saturday, throwing eight scoreless innings while only surrendering five hits. He struck out nine while walking just two batters.

Parrish hadn’t been the sharpest this season, but this performance came at the perfect time. He helped Florida State advance into the winner’s bracket of the College World Series and looked dominant in the process.

Franklin is a relief pitcher for Vanderbilt and didn’t have the best year for the Commodores, posting a 10.43 ERA in 14.2 innings pitched. He didn’t pitch at all in their win over Louisville on Sunday.

Anderson started three games for Auburn, but has mostly been used as a reliever this year. He finished the 2019 campaign with a 4.22 ERA in 64 innings pitched and recorded one out for the Tigers in Sunday’s game against Mississippi State. He allowed one hit in that outing.

While this year’s group isn’t quite as exciting as watching Brady Singer and Jackson Kowar (Kansas City’s first two picks in the 2018 draft) last year, it’s always interesting to follow along with potential future Royals stars.

Out of these three, Drew Parrish was clearly the most exciting to watch. He was the Royals’ eighth round pick and hopefully could provide some type of spark for the team moving forward. Franklin was a 17th round selection and Anderson went off the board in round 23.

Parrish is the only starting pitcher out of these three and with Florida State moving onto the winner’s bracket, he’ll hopefully have at least one more start (maybe even more) as we move along through the tournament.
