Kansas City Royals: Please bring up Bubba Starling NOW
The Kansas City Royals are going nowhere in 2019, so it’s time to give the minor league players more opportunities. One that fans have been waiting on a long time is outfielder Bubba Starling. BRING UP BUBBA ALREADY!
Every year since probably 2013 or so, Kansas City Royals fans have wondered if that year is the year that former 2011 first round pick Bubba Starling makes his MLB debut. Well, it’s been eight years since the Gardner native was drafted and it feels like 2019 might finally be the year of Starling in Kansas City.
Prior to the games on June 8th, Starling is slashing .343/.382/.480 with four home runs and 24 RBI in 175 at bats. He’s walked 13 times and struck out 36 times.
Maybe the plan for the Royals is to call-up Starling once Billy Hamilton is dealt next month (assuming that does indeed happen), but is there a particular reason why Terrance Gore is still getting big league starts and Starling isn’t? Gore is nothing more than a pinch runner and that’s become glaringly obvious this season (and he makes dumb base running errors more often than not).
Alex Gordon‘s in the final year of his deal, Hamilton should get traded, and right field is still a mixed bag of tricks.

I understand the Royals might not want to get service time ticking on Starling, but let’s face the facts here: It’s been EIGHT years since he was drafted. He’s 26 years old (and turning 27 in August) and it’s time to see if he’s worth keeping around any longer.
Clearly Starling has gotten the hang of things in the minor leagues, so the next step is to bring him to the bigs. Give him that long-awaited Major League call-up and let him make his debut in Kansas City at Kauffman Stadium in front of fans who have been waiting to see him take a big league swing since 2011.
With the Kansas City Royals not contending for anything other than the worst record in the league, what harm does it do to call-up Starling? He’d provide more of a pop at the plate than Gore (at least that’s the hope) and he’s always had the defensive skills to get it done in the outfield.
The Royals could use a guy like Starling and that’s why it’s time to pull the trigger and bring him to Kansas City!
When do you think Bubba Starling makes his MLB debut this season? Or do you not think it will come this year?
