There are obviously way more draft picks that Royals fans should be keeping an eye on, but these five stand out to me the most.

Two of these players have a chance to be fireball relievers out of the bullpen and the other three could provide some depth to the lineup. The general rule of thumb in an MLB Draft class is that normally teams are lucky if three guys make it to the big leagues at some point.

More from Kansas City Royals

Obviously Bobby Witt Jr. has a lot of hype amongst Royals fans and for good reason. He’s the first top five pick by the organization since they took Kyle Zimmer in the 2012 draft. Zimmer just made his MLB debut this year and was a college pitcher at the time of being drafted.

Witt isn’t quite 19 yet, but the hope is that he can fly through the minors and help this team in two or three years. The picks made after him were Brady McConnell out of Florida and Alec Marsh out of Arizona State, both of whom have their own potential of course.

Day three picks are crapshoots really (honestly – a lot of MLB draft picks are crapshoots when it comes down to it), but ever so often, one emerges and becomes a true impact player. That’s what the Royals are hoping for from these gentlemen who got selected by the franchise.

It’s worth mentioning that not all of these players drafted will end up signing with the Royals. Some might opt to return to school or go to college for a few years and then re-entering the draft. Usually the earlier round selections join the organization, but that’s not always the case.
