While Major League Baseball’s amateur draft doesn’t get nearly the love that the NFL or NBA drafts receive, it’s still a vital mechanism for team building, especially for small-market teams. Like the Kansas City Royals, who happen to own the number two pick in this coming Monday’s draft.

Not only do the Kansas City Royals own that coveted pick, but the organization owns another three picks in the top 80 slots. And the team has six selections in the first five rounds.

So, who will the Royals select with these picks? In early April, I took a look at seven options for the second overall draft pick while just last week I spoke with Burke Granger of 2080 Baseball about what to expect from the Royals as a whole.

In this article, I’ll conduct my own five-round mock draft for the Royals, making selections at numbers two, 44, 70, 80, 109, and 139. I’ll also write about two different players considered at each selection (except number two) and explain why I think the Royals will go with the particular player chosen.

So, let’s dive right in, shall we?
