KC Chiefs: Three offensive players needing big seasons in 2019
NUMBER TWO – DAMIEN WILLIAMS
Damien Williams had a respectable campaign in 2018 considering what was asked of him.
The Chiefs did what they felt was best in releasing Kareem Hunt late in the regular season. With Hunt off the team and Spencer Ware injured, Damien Williams had to step up and be the number one option at running back.
Williams started three games for the Chiefs in 2018 and appeared in all of them. He ended the year carrying the ball 50 times for 256 yards and four touchdowns. He was also a big time threat in the receiving game too, grabbing the ball 23 times for 160 yards and two touchdowns.
The Chiefs LOVE running backs who catch the ball, so expect Andy Reid to make sure Williams continues to play a role there. He did well at it in limited opportunities, but now that he has a two-year extension, will he continue to live up to the hype?
With several other options at running back, will Williams be the number one option by season’s end? He’ll have to be on his A-game in order to truly help the Chiefs contend.
