Kansas City Chiefs: 10 UDFA signings who can make 53-man roster
By Shade Piper
John Lovett, TE, Princeton
John Lovett is the most intriguing prospect that took part in rookie minicamp. He played quarterback at Princeton and is now converting to tight end for the Chiefs. He is a great athlete and was being worked out as a running back, fullback, wide receiver, and even linebacker during his pre-draft workouts.
Position changes are tough, but if anyone can make a successful position change, Lovett would be the one to do it. Lovett was very versatile at Princeton while playing quarterback he threw for 31 touchdowns, but also had 51 career receptions for two touchdowns, 1591 career rush yards for 42 touchdowns, and even punted a few times. That’s about as versatile as it gets.
Lovett actually had more rushing touchdowns than passing touchdowns, which shows what he could do after the catch as a tight end. He also ran a 4.57-second 40-yard dash at his pro day, which is pretty fast for his 234-pound build.
Tight end is one of the most open positions as far as roster spots go for the Chiefs this year, so keep an eye on Lovett as the offseason continues as a sleeper to make the Chiefs 53-man roster.
