Jamal Custis, WR, Syracuse

Jamal Custis was one of the more exciting free agent signings out of the gate, standing at 6’5″ and 213 pounds. A target this big could create matchup nightmares when paired with Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs paid Custis handsomely as well, giving him $100,000 in guaranteed money, which is the most guaranteed money for an undrafted free agent receiver in the past two drafts.

If the Chiefs are on the fence about which receiver to give the last spot to, the guaranteed money owed to Custis might help make that decision for them. This could help make him an early favorite to make the 53-man roster.

Of course, they aren’t just going to give Custis a roster spot because they gave him some guaranteed money, but he’s probably been the third most impressive receiver so far behind Hardman, who probably has a roster spot guaranteed anyway, and Thompson. This isn’t a bad spot to be in as the last wide receiver roster spot could come down to Thompson versus Custis.

According to Kissel, Custis displayed the mismatch ability that you would expect with his big frame, using his size to catch multiple balls in traffic. If he can keep this up throughout the offseason he should have a good shot at the final wide receiver spot.
