After coming oh so close to reaching the Super Bowl this past season, ESPN thinks the Kansas City Chiefs have the best chance of winning the whole dang thing in the 2019 season. Huzzah!

Kansas City Chiefs fans probably didn’t know what ESPN’s Football Power Index was before this week, but boy is it their favorite thing to point to now! The FPI (Football Power Index) indicated that the Chiefs have the best chance to win the Super Bowl in 2019. That is pretty exciting!

"Though Kansas City was knocked out by the New England Patriots in the AFC title game last season, FPI thought the Chiefs remained the best team in football in 2018 even after the Super Bowl. Mix in the fact that Vegas concurs with Kansas City’s overall strength and that its quarterback has recorded only brilliance on the stat sheet, and FPI forecasts 10.3 wins, a 65 percent chance to win the AFC West and an 80 percent chance to reach the playoffs."

Well, isn’t that blurb just a ray of sunshine?

More from Kansas City Chiefs

After having to hear constantly how the Los Angeles Chargers are the better team in the AFC West or how the Cleveland Browns are suddenly the team to beat in the entire AFC (yes, even somehow leapfrogging the Patriots), it’s nice to finally see the Kansas City Chiefs get the love and recognition they deserve.

This is a team that had the best record in the AFC West, won home field advantage throughout the postseason, and came up just short of making it to the big game. It took the ball not bouncing their way on a few plays that ultimately cost them a trip to the Super Bowl.

Anyway, back to FPI. It takes into account how talented each team is on offense, defense, and on special teams and then ranks them from there. It’s a lot of geeky stats that most casual fans wouldn’t care to delve into too much (though for those of you who are interested, check out the link I provided above).

Chiefs fans expect another trip to the AFC Championship game this season and anything less than that will be a disappointment. Making it to the Super Bow for the first time since the 1969 season (jeez) is the goal, but crazy things happen that derail those dreams all the time.

Last season it took the Patriots converting on three straight third and longs and then getting the coin toss in overtime to make it to their 900th Super Bowl. Sometimes things fall your way, sometimes they don’t. The Chiefs will look to be on the right side of things in the 2019 season.

The good news is it appears the Kansas City Chiefs are in very good shape toward making it to their first title game in 50 years. It’d sure be great if that became a reality!
