Kansas City Chiefs: 2019 season schedule officially released
The NFL does a good job at keeping fans invested during the offseason. The most recent big event involved revealing the 2019 regular season schedule. The Kansas City Chiefs have several primetime games in 2019, which is exciting!
While games were being leaked throughout the day on Wednesday, Kansas City Chiefs fans finally know what the team’s path will look like to a fourth straight AFC West title. Here is the 2019 schedule for the Chiefs (bold indicates home game, italicized indicates primetime game):
- Week 1: 9/8 – at Jaguars
- Week 2: 9/15 – at Raiders
- Week 3: 9/22 – Ravens
- Week 4: 9/29 – at Lions
- Week 5: 10/6 – Colts (Sunday Night Football)
- Week 6: 10/13 – Texans
- Week 7: 10/17 – at Broncos (Thursday Night Football)
- Week 8: 10/27 – Packers (Sunday Night Football)
- Week 9: 11/3 – Vikings
- Week 10: 11/10 – at Titans
- Week 11: 11/18 – at Chargers (Mexico City) (Monday Night Football)
- Week 12: 11/24 – BYE WEEK
- Week 13: 12/1 – Raiders
- Week 14: 12/8 – at Patriots
- Week 15: 12 – Broncos
- Week 16: 12/22 – at Bears (Sunday Night Football)
- Week 17:12/29 – Chargers
The earliest leaks were a majority of the primetime games and Chiefs fans should be pumped at how many are on the schedule this year! After just one home game for Sunday Night Football last year, the Chiefs get to host the Colts in week five and the Packers in week eight for Sunday night under the bright lights of Arrowhead.
The Chiefs get a game on Monday Night Football as well, playing the Chargers in Mexico City. It counts as a home game for the Bolts, so don’t go freaking out about the Chiefs losing a home game. This makes up for the canceled game there a year ago when the Chiefs then played the Rams in Los Angeles.
The Chiefs also face the Bears in primetime, which if you read my primetime predictions post, I nailed that prediction! Matt Nagy being the head coach plus both teams being intriguing made this a no-brainer to put under the lights.
The Thursday night battle this year unfortunately comes on the road, but it’s at Denver. The Chiefs have done well against the Broncos the last few seasons, but playing on the road on Thursday night is always a big disadvantage.
Surprisingly, KC vs New England isn’t a night game, but it’ll get the main Sunday afternoon slot for the “Game of the Week” near the end of the 2019 season. Those tend to truly be the week’s best game rather than it coming on Sunday Night Football, so good planning there, NFL.
It was a bit surprising not to see the Chiefs kick things off against the Patriots for that Sunday night game, but fans are probably okay with that game taking place later in the season.
Games can get flexed after about roughly the first month of the season, so it’s possible some of these games get moved, but with Patrick Mahomes being the reigning league MVP, football fans everywhere are going to want to watch him as much as possible. If they say they don’t, they’re lying.

As for the rest of the schedule, the Chiefs open things up on the road for the third straight season. The Jaguars had a down year last year, but they’re a new team with a new quarterback now. That could be a surprisingly fun game and starting 1-0 could be tougher than we think.
The Chiefs actually play their first two games on the road, much like last year, with their second game coming against the Raiders. Last year, the Chiefs and Raiders didn’t play until the final month of the season.
KC closes things out with a home game against the Chargers in what could potentially decide who wins the AFC West in 2019. These two teams had the same record last year, but the Chiefs owned the tiebreaker, which gave them the division title as well as the number one seed.
Last year’s schedule seemed tough and the Chiefs wound up going 12-4, good for the best record in the entire AFC. This year’s schedule doesn’t look easy, but the Chiefs, barring something drastic, are going to win double digit games. It’s what they do these days.
What do you think of the KC Chiefs schedule? What games are you most looking forward to?
