The Kansas City Chiefs made a trade on Monday, sending safety Eric Murray to Cleveland in exchange for defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah. This move is a good one.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been busy this free agency session, most recently bringing in Emmanuel Ogbah from Cleveland and trading Eric Murray to the Browns. It’s hard to find faults with this trade honestly.

Ogbah is a former second round pick out of Oklahoma State in 2016. He spent the first three years of his career in Cleveland, starting all 16 games in 2016, ten in 2017, and 14 last year. He’s totaled 70 tackles (16 for loss), 29 quarterback hits, and 12.5 sacks during that time.

The loss of Eric Murray won’t be a massive one. He was never going to be a starter long-term (though he did make some nice plays during his time with the Chiefs) and with Tyrann Mathieu in town, it seemed likely that either Murray or Daniel Sorensen would be on their way out at some point before training camp.

Back to Ogbah though.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

This move might mean the Chiefs aren’t planning to pursue Allen Bailey, a former Chief who could have re-signed, though it seemed unlikely. It also doesn’t paint a pretty picture for former second round pick Tanoh Kpassagnon, who has done next to nothing since arriving to KC in 2017.

It’s nice to see Brett Veach making moves in free agency and adding the right pieces. Ogbah provides depth along the defense, joining the likes of Breeland Speaks and newly acquired Alex Okafor. It’ll be interesting to see how these three fare in year one.

What KC needs to focus on now is adding an edge rusher in the draft. If they can find a solid edge in the early rounds of the draft, suddenly this defense looks a heck of a lot better.

The defense has to get better if the Kansas City Chiefs want to make it to a Super Bowl and Veach is making the moves necessary to get to that point. Ogbah has been able to stay relatively healthy and was an effective player for the Browns, so the Chiefs definitely got the better end of the deal here, at least in my opinion.

Murray wasn’t awful (at least not as bad as some Chiefs fans would say), but I think most people would rather than Emmanuel Ogbah on their defense over Eric Murray.

What do you think of this move, Chiefs fans?
