Could Drew Lock of Mizzou football end up as the quarterback of the future for the Oakland Raiders? A recent NFL.com mock draft thinks so.

Chad Reuter of NFL.com released his mock draft a few days ago and went with the bombshell of having the Oakland Raiders trade up to pick number two in order to draft Mizzou football‘s Drew Lock. What a move this would be!

In order for this to happen, the Raiders would have to trade with the San Francisco 49ers to get to pick number two. The Niners don’t need a quarterback and could easily swindle Jon Gruden and the Raiders in this deal.

Per Reuter,

More from Missouri Tigers

"PROJECTED TRADE WITH 49ERS. Jon Gruden gets his quarterback by moving up two spots. Gruden coached Lock at the Senior Bowl, and it’s easy to see him appreciating the former Missouri quarterback’s demeanor and physical tools. If the Raiders don’t move up to get him, the Dolphins, Broncos or Giants could make a deal with the 49ers to land Lock."

When it comes to potential landing spots for Lock, the Raiders aren’t mentioned as much as other teams like the Broncos or Dolphins. A lot of that is because most foresee Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins going higher than Lock.

In this mock, Murray is first off the board and that’s why the Raiders opt to move up a few spots. They want to make sure they’re nabbing their quarterback of the future and perhaps this would mean Lock could sit for a year behind Derek Carr.

Carr looked like an MVP candidate in 2016, but has dropped off tremendously since then. There’s been talk that he’s not the long-term answer there, so drafting Lock would definitely be a sign that the Raiders are wanting a new quarterback before relocating to Las Vegas.

Mizzou fans probably wouldn’t like this pick, at least not the ones who are also Chiefs fans, because it means their favorite NFL team will have to square off against Lock twice a year for however long Lock is in the pros. He would be set up nicely with the Raiders though, as they recently added Antonio Brown to their roster and that’s a nice weapon for any quarterback to have.

Lock passed for over 12,000 yards during his four-year career at Missouri with 99 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. The Tigers didn’t accomplish much during his time there, but that’s not entirely Lock’s fault. He’s the second all-time passing leader for the university and fans knew all season long that he’d likely be a first-round pick in this year’s draft.
