Kansas City Royals fans finally got to see Kyle Zimmer pitch in the majors and his debut went perfectly! This was a long time coming for the former Royals first round pick.

After the Kansas City Royals designated Kyle Zimmer for assignment this past offseason, it really did seem like he was officially done with the organization. He later re-signed with them and then pitched his butt off in Spring Training to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster.

The crowd went nuts when Zimmer was announced as part of the roster because they know how difficult of a road it’s been for the San Francisco native to get to this point. Injuries have derailed Zimmer’s career, but so far (knock on wood please) he’s remained healthy and has been clutch as a result.

Zimmer stayed in the bullpen during the first two games, but he got the call out of the pen during the Royals’ finale against the White Sox on Sunday. Zimmer entered the game in the eighth inning when the good guys were trailing 6-2. It was a perfect time to bring him out because there was little to no pressure.

Zimmer did his job beautifully, facing four batter and only allowing one hit. He struck out two batters and looked great on the mound. That’s the player the Royals thought they were getting when they took him in the first round in 2012. Zimmer has been unlucky with the amount of injuries he’s sustained, but now he’s making up for it.

More from Kansas City Royals

This is only one inning of work for Kyle Zimmer so it’s a small sample size, but let’s celebrate the fact that the guy finally got to pitch in the big leagues. Fans were skeptical that this moment would ever come, but not only did it finally arrive, but he looked terrific when called upon out of the pen.

The Royals bullpen hasn’t been great so far, but of the relievers we’ve seen to this point (all but Scott Barlow have raced out of the pen to pitch), Zimmer’s performance was one of the better ones.

That should really excite Royals fans because we all know the guy has worked hard to make it to the major leagues and show that he was worthy of a first round selection.

Will Kyle Zimmer continue to be this dominant? Who knows, but for now, good for him for finally getting to pitch a major league inning.
