This is only Game 1 of 162, but a win is a win! Not only that, but the Royals won 5-3 and led 5-0 heading into the ninth inning.

It would have been such a Royals thing to do to blow the 5-0 lead that the offense helped build and to strip Brad Keller’s win away from him. Fortunately, Brad Boxberger did his job admirably and it wouldn’t be surprising if he quickly stole Wily Peralta’s closer job from him.

More from Kansas City Royals

The bullpen was the only problem I saw on the field on Thursday and that was a problem last year as well. Hopefully Kyle Zimmer gets a chance to pitch out of the pen here soon and this can just be chalked up to Opening Day jitters.

Brad Keller pitching seven scoreless innings was fun to watch and it’d sure be awesome if the Royals had themselves a 23-year old ace. We deserve nice things here in Kansas City.

Last, but not least, let’s discuss Adalberto Mondesi’s two-triple day once again. One of my brothers doesn’t follow the Royals, and he was in awe of Mondesi’s speed. Getting two triples in one game is pretty freaking impressive, man.
