The 2019 season might be another rebuilding year for the Kansas City Royals, but Opening Day is still something to be amped about.

More from Kansas City Royals

Royals fans will get to see the 2019 squad in action for the first time and that’s great! This team is going to be based on speed and defense, which takes us back to those fun times in 2014 and 2015.

It’d be awesome if the Royals could put up a bunch of runs and clobber Chicago on Thursday, but if nothing else, seeing a nice performance from Keller and improvement from the bullpen would be okay. Keller is hopefully going to be a long-time member of the organization and potentially the ace in the next wave of contention.

Martin Maldonado is someone I’ll be paying close attention to, as he was brought in to fill in while Salvador Perez is on the shelf this season. Maldonado is known for his terrific defense and being able to call good games for his pitchers. Will he help Keller out in his first outing of the season?

Another thing to watch for is the weather, as it’s looking like it’ll be rainy in the afternoon. If Mother Nature could push the thunderstorm back until Thursday evening, Royals fans would sure appreciate that!
